When Di first mentioned at lunch that Sleepyside High was lucky to get the rights to do Grease, some of the Bob-Whites looked at her like she had lost her mind.

"You've got to be kidding," Mart snorted. "That's got to be the sappiest musical of all time."

"Now that's not true," interjected the usually reasonable Brian. "That title would be reserved for The Sound of Music."

"The hills are alive with the sound of music..." yodeled a badly off key Jim, before he was smacked by three angry girls.

"I'll have you know that The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies." protested Di.

"Mine too!" exclaimed Trixie and Honey at the same time.

The boys all rolled their eyes in unison. All the boys, that is, except one.

"I've always liked watching Grease whenever it comes on tv." said Dan quietly.

Six pairs of eyes suddenly riveted on him.

"I know that sounds strange, coming from someone like me…" Realizing that everyone was still staring at him, Dan's voice started to fade out.

"Er, umm," Honey struggled to clear her throat. "That's not true Dan." The normally composed Honey quickly looked over at Di with a glance that clearly said, "Help me out here!"

Di smoothly interrupted. "That's right. We all know you're not the same person as when you first came here. Isn't that right everybody?" A quick glare at the male bob-whites ensured their immediate if not quite enthusiastic agreement.

Oh swell, now he's making himself out to be sensitive, grumbled Jim to himself.

Look at him will you. Feeding the girls a line like that, thought Brian.

Next thing we know, he'll have all the girls eating out of his hand. Or worse, they'll be feeding him! Mart looked quickly at the table to see if anyone had taken any of his food.

Dan, reassured that no one was laughing at him, decided to take the plunge. "You know, I think it might be fun to try out for a part in Grease. After all, I already have a leather jacket. It might be a little tight, but it still fits."

"Why Danny, I didn't know you were that interested in theater." Di paused to fluff her hair. "I thought I was the only one who had the guts to try something so, so, daring."

Trixie, always quick to rise to a challenge, immediately tried to defend herself and the rest of the group. "Are you saying that the rest of us are chickens?"

"Well . . . I didn't exactly see any of the rest of you on stage now did I? Oh no, the rest of you pushed me up there, telling me I'd be perfect for the part. " Di flashed her violet eyes at Trixie. "Well guess what? It's your turn now. You'd be perfect for the part of Sandy. You've already got the curls down pat." On a roll, Di turned back to Dan. "And you'd be perfect for the part of ... Danny, after all, it is your name."

By now the rest of group was in an uproar.

"You can't be serious! Trixie on stage!" Mart almost fell on the floor from laughing so hard. "Remember the last time she was on a stage? She was disaster incarnate."

Honey immediately rushed to Trixie's defense. "Oh Mart. Why must you always be so quick to put Trixie down? She hasn't been nearly that clumsy in years. Isn't that right Jim?"

"What? Oh, um, um..." Flashing through Jim's mind was a picture of an orange ball of fabric at the base of a stairwell. "You're, um, er, completely right Honey."

"Gee, thanks for the staggering vote of confidence there Jimbo." Trixie's voice dripped with sarcasm. "Do you think you could at least try to sound a little more convincing?"

After taking a look around the table and the disbelieving looks on all the male faces, save one, she made up her mind. "I'll do it! I'm going to try out for the part."

Grabbing Dan's hand before she changed her mind, Trixie turned to give her most scornful gaze to the rest of the guys. "At least there's one real man here. Come on Danny, let's go sign up for the tryouts."

Later on, at the opening night of Grease, the rest of the Bob-Whites could only stare when the scene at the fair started. There was Trixie in a skin tight cat-suit and red high heels and Dan in a pair of very tight black pants and a black shirt that looked to be at least three sizes too small.

Di and Honey sat drooling over Dan's impressive physique.

"My God, would you look at that bulge Honey?" whispered Di.

"Which one?"

"All of them. He's got bulges in all the right places. Damn, why did I talk Trixie into this? That could have been me up there!"

The brothers and Jim were looking daggers at Dan.

"Would you look at how he's holding her?" muttered Brian.

"I'm going to have a talk with him when this is over. Doesn't he know that Trixie has always been my girl?" grumbled Jim.

"Why do musicals always to take so long? Can't you two hurry up? I'm starving here!" Mart hugged his arms around his stomach, trying to cover up the sounds of it's rumblings.

Meanwhile, on stage:

Danny: I better shape up, cause you need a man.
Sandy: I need a man who can keep me satisfied.
Danny: I better shape up if I'm gonna prove.
Sandy: You better prove that my faith is justified.
Danny: Are you sure?

Danny and Sandy: Yes I'm sure down deep inside.

You're the one that I want
You oo oo honey
The one that I want
You oo oo honey
The one that I want
You oo oo are what I need
Oh yes indeed!

As the last notes of the song faded away, Trixie and Dan were in a world all to themselves. They had eyes only for each other. Staring soulfully at each other, Trixie could only think one thing:

She knew she would be forever grateful to Diana Lynch for insisting she try out for the school musical.

Author notes: I hope I didn't offend any Dan fans by using these pictures of John Travolta, but I couldn't resist the idea. I was driving home trying to figure out what I could contribute to Daxenitri, when I was blind sided with the idea of Grease. The image of Dan in a black leather jacket lead directly to Grease. I don't argue with the muses, I just go where they point me. ;)

These images are completely unauthorized. I scanned them straight off the songbook that came with the DVD. Ain't technology grand!
